UTVs are great for utility work, exploring the outdoors, and hunting among other things, but it’s very important that you take steps to keep yourself and your passengers safe. That’s why the experts at Manor Home Center have created this list of UTV safety tips.

Get the Right Safety Gear

Attire is very important when it comes to UTV safety. Many UTV models don’t have a windshield, which can lead to scrapes and abrasions when debris starts flying into the cabin. Luckily, wearing long-sleeved pants and shirts, along with protective boots and gloves, can protect you and your passengers from said debris. It’s also important that everyone have a well-fitted helmet that offers sufficient protection. We recommend either a motorcycle helmet with a full face mask or a motocross helmet with a pair of goggles for eye protection.

Emergency Supplies

There are certain supplies that you’ll want to keep close at hand should the worst happen. For example, having a first aid kit, whether homemade or pre-built, can help a lot if someone gets injured. You should also keep a basic set of tools around in case you need to make a quick repair. Finally, you should have a method of contacting help in an emergency, whether that’s a phone and charger or an emergency radio.

Safe Behaviors

Another key component of UTV safety is observing basic safety procedures. For example, always keep your hands and arms inside the UTV while it is in motion, and never attempt to operate the vehicle while inebriated or otherwise incapacitated. These kinds of behaviors, while simple, are highly effective at making your UTV ride safer.
