Now that the harvest season is complete, you’re probably preparing to put your tractor away for storage. But first, take a closer look at it: pretty muddy, right? It’s a good idea to thoroughly clean your tractor before storage to ensure that the accumulated debris doesn’t do any damage over the winter and also, a clean tractor is easier to maintain and tune up. You can more easily spot any issues that need to be addressed. Plus, you’ll have a nice, clean tractor when you pull it out in the spring!

Here are our top tips for washing your tractor so you can get the task done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

1. Remove Heavy Debris

First, you’ll want to start your cleaning process by scraping off the worst of the muck with a plastic mud scraper. Get out all the dirt and grass and twigs and mud that you can before you begin the scrubbing process to make things easier.

2. Rinse & Scrub Outside

You can use either a hose or a pressure washer to hose down your tractor’s exterior. Start with the tires, then the undercarriage, then the whole exterior. Try to avoid getting the sensors or any delicate controls wet. Fill a bucket with water and add some car-wash soap, then use a scrub brush to clean the exterior, taking special care with some of the more intricate parts of your tractor. Give the tractor another thorough rinse with your hose when you’re finished.

3. Dry & Wax

Once your tractor is rinsed, you can allow it to air-dry if you prefer, or you can use a leaf blower to speed up the drying process. Some people would rather use a towel to dry off certain parts to prevent rust. Next, you can apply some wax to the exterior with a soft cloth, buffing it gently to get your tractor to shine.

4. Sweep & Wipe the Interior

Now it’s time to grab a broom to sweep out the floor of your cab to remove dust and debris. Then you can take a damp rag and wipe off the console carefully, then wipe down the seat. You can also use a small shop vacuum to clean up the cab. Now your tractor is ready to be stored!
